Description:
In 1913, an international crew of scientists, sailors, guides, and crewmen—called the Canadian Arctic Expedition's (CAE)—set sail on a remarkable voyage of discovery in Canada's High Arctic. During the five years that followed, their work would touch unprecedented facets of Canada's far-flung northern reaches, including: previously unknown lands and islands, and thousands of photographs, artifacts, and specimens that offered Canadians a glimpse of life in the Arctic. Their discoveries not only better defined Canada's northern boundaries, but fundamentally contributed to Canada's scientific, social, and cultural knowledge of the Arctic and the people who lived there. This redefined the region in the Canadian imagination, and helped establish the special place it maintains in national life today.

This coin set celebrates the Canadian Arctic Expedition of 1913-1916!  An important addition to any collection!

Special features: - The entire Proof Set is struck in 99.99% Fine Silver.  In This Proof Set Only: The $1 and $2 are gold plated, while selective gold plating enhances the design of the Proof Dollar.  Only 25,000 sets will be available worldwide.

Design: - The fine silver dollar proof coin was designed by Canadian artist Bonnie Ross and draws on photography from the Canadian Arctic Expedition. It depicts a group of three men aboard a dogsled, the waiting dog team before them listening for the command to move on across the Arctic tundra. The skyline and horizon behind this portrait are filled with a stylized image of a compass.

Packaging: - This fine silver proof set comes in elegant genuine leather book-style packaging that complements these beautiful coins.

This celebration is better known as the Spring Festival and coincides with the first day of spring - a date that shifts from year to year depending upon the lunar cycle and solar year.

Legends about the Snake: - People born during the Year of the Snake have a hypnotic beauty and never give themselves totally away. The mysterious Snake is a strategic planner that has everyone guessing its next move. It will keep plotting until it gets what it wants. And when it does, it is not likely to let go. The Snake is a strong individual and is usually destined for great success.  This coin makes a beautiful gift for someone born in 2013 or a previous Year of the Snake.

A three-fold combination of different finishes. The design (relief or raised area) includes both brilliant and mirrored surfaces and the background (field) is striated using laser etching that results in a matte finish.  A celebration of Chinese culture, this coin makes an ideal gift for those born in the Year of the Snake.  It is crafted in 99.99% fine silver – a welcome and wonderful gift of enduring value!

Design: - This coin was designed by Canadian artist Simon Ng.  It features a coiling snake with spots on its body forming the Chinese character for “snake”; along the coin edge is a familiar Chinese pattern that encircles the snake, the word “CANADA,” the date “2013,” and the face value of “10 DOLLARS.”

Artists - RCM engravers reproduced the painting Toronto Street, Winter Morning by Lawren S. Harris (1921) (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse)

 Description:

Lawren Stewart Harris was born in Brantford, Ontario, on October 23, 1885. Born into a wealthy family (his family co-owned the important farm equipment company, Massey-Harris), Harris was able to devote his life to art. This freedom allowed him not only to become a leading landscape artist and key founder of the Group of Seven, but a major supporter of other important Canadian artists.  When he was 19 years old, Harris moved to Germany to study art. For Harris, the particularities of Canada's many landscapes became the conduits for the expression of universal truths and his paintings evolved from Impressionist landscapes to geometric abstractions in the 1930s. Regardless of the forms his art adopted, the relationship between the physical and the spiritual remained a key concern over the course of his career. In 1940, after six years in New Hampshire and New Mexico, Harris settled in Vancouver, where he remained until his death in January 1970. Harris was a Companion of the Order of Canada and recipient of several honorary degrees from Canadian universities. He is widely recognized as one of the most important figures in modern Canadian art.

This coin is the 4th coin in the Group of Seven series!

Special features:   Each coin beautifully captures Harris's fascination with the interaction of past and present in the central images of Victorian buildings and a horse-drawn delivery van.  This is the 4th coin in the series. Coins previously issued are: Varley, Stormy Weather; Carmichael, Houses, Cobalt; and Lismer, Nova Scotia Fishing Village.  This coin is crafted in 1 ounce of fine silver (99.99% pure).  Mintage has been strictly limited to 7,000 coins worldwide. (Previous coins in this series sold out quickly!)

Design:  In the reproduction of Harris' Toronto Street, Winter Morning, several bundled figures walk in the snowy streets by a horse-drawn delivery van. The contrast of light and morning shadows underscores the strong visual tension captured in the dominance of horizontal and vertical lines of street, architecture, and small stand of trees that define the painting.

Packaging:  Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint branded maroon clamshell case lined with flock.  The case is protected by a black sleeve.

Description:

The second of six coins in the exciting Great Explorers series!

Jacques Cartier was born in Saint-Malo, France, in 1491, at a time when the humanist ideals of the Italian Renaissance were beginning to spread throughout Europe. In the second decade of the sixteenth century, Francis I (François Ier) ascended to the throne of France. He was a great patron of arts, letters and discovery and, inspired by humanist influences but also by his desire to enrich France's wealth and power, Francis I sought to find a northwest passage to the riches of the Orient. Having heard that areas of North America were abundant with gold and gems, he enlisted the services of Jacques Cartier to find them and locate a passage to Asia.

Although Cartier was not the first European to visit eastern Canada, his discovery and exploration of the St. Lawrence laid the groundwork for centuries of trade and settlement to follow. He is counted among the great explorers of his era and it is from his map design and other records that Europeans gained some of their earliest understanding of the landscape of North America and the customs of its aboriginal residents.

Regardless of whether you already own the Vikings coin, the first in the Great Explorers series, this coin is an important addition to any collection! It also makes an ideal gift.

Special features:  This coin is the second coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's six part series featuring the Great Explorers of Canada.  It highlights the famous explorer, Jacques Cartier, with his full-length portrait rendered in exceptional detail. This  beautiful and memorable design depicts Cartier at a key moment in his exploration of Canada, while also highlighting the fundamental role and importance of Canada's Aboriginal peoples in the country's history and origins.  Each coin is minted from 99.99% pure gold.  Mintage has been strictly limited mintage to only 2,000 worldwide.

Design:  This coin was designed by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw and depicts a full-length three-quarter profile portrait of explorer Jacques Cartier, flanked by French soldiers and an aboriginal guide, as he stands atop a riverbank, surveying this new land of "Canada." Each coin is engraved with the word "CANADA," the year "2013," and the face value of "200 DOLLARS."

Packaging:  Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell case lined with flock.  The case is protected by a black sleeve.  Each coin is accompanied by a serialized certificate—which provides proof of ownership for this coin and evidence that it has been individually inspected by the Royal Canadian Mint’s resident quality assurance specialists.

Description:

Previous Uncirculated Set sold out! Includes the rare 50-cent coin! First uncirculated set without the penny!

The Uncirculated Set continues a long tradition as the perfect way to collect Canada's circulation coins from year-to-year. These shiny coins are also an original keepsake to transform everyday achievements like the first day of school or first job, into memorable milestones—keep them on hand for life's unexpected victories!

Every coin that is minted in Canada is a work of art. Each represents a fragment of our unique history and extraordinary geography. The 2013 Uncirculated set, which contains the six denominations of coins produced this year, is a striking collection of some of Canada's most famous iconography and Canadian icons.

Polar Bear: Canada's bi-metallic two-dollar coin, launched in 1996, features a polar bear, one of the world's largest terrestrial carnivores which can weigh up to 650 kilograms. It lives near the cold seas and frozen ice of Canada's far-north.

Common Loon: Launched in 1987, the reverse of the one-dollar coin represents a common loon swimming against the rugged backdrop of the Canadian Shield. The loon's haunting calls are one the quintessential sound of the Canadian wilderness in summer.

Canada's Coat of Arms: The Canadian Coat of Arms, proclaimed in 1921 and modified in 1996, reminds Canadians of our diverse heritage. It features images from France (the fleur-de-lis), England (the three royal lions and rose), Scotland (a lion and thistle) and Ireland (the Irish harp and shamrock).

Caribou: An enduring symbol of the Canadian north, the majestically-antlered caribou has remained a Canadian icon since first appearing on the twenty-five-cent piece in 1936.

Bluenose: In 1921, Atlantic Canadians built one of the finest racing and fishing vessels in Canadian history, the Bluenose. Known for its speed, and almost unbeatable in a race, the ship first appeared on the ten-cent piece in 1937.

Beaver: The beaver is Canada's national animal. Highly sought after for its rich fur in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was the mainstay of the colonial economy for centuries. Today, the beaver is revered as a symbol of hard work and perseverance.

These uncirculated coins have been carefully selected to provide you with the best examples of their kind. First uncirculated set without the penny!
