Program Information:
This marks the sixth year of the First Spouse Gold Coin Series, the United States Mint’s first coin program to feature our Nation’s first spouses. A minimum of four one-half ounce, $10 24-karat gold coins are minted and released annually in the order the spouses served in the position. The coins are minted in proof and collector's uncirculated (satin finish) qualities. Each First Spouse Gold Coin coincides with the release of the corresponding circulating Presidential $1 Coin. In 2012, the United States Mint released four coins in the series – Alice Paul and the Suffrage Movement, Frances Cleveland (first term), Caroline Harrison, and Frances Cleveland (second term).

This was the fourth coin released in 2012 in the First Spouse Gold Coin Series, and the second to feature Frances Cleveland.  President Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms.  Thus he is counted as both the 22nd and 24th President of the United States.  This coin is struck in proof quality, giving it a frosted foreground and a mirror-like background (deep cameo). The obverse features a portrait of Frances Cleveland.  The reverse depicts an event emblematic of Mrs. Cleveland’s popularity with the public.  This coin is encapsulated and packaged in a custom-designed, highly polished, dome-chested, lacquered hardwood presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Mintage Limits:
The Frances Cleveland First Spouse Gold Coins (second term) had a maximum mintage of 13,000 across all product options, with the ratio of proof coins to uncirculated coins determined by customer demand (within the aggregate maximum issuance of 13,000).  Recent First Spouse mintages suggest that the actual total may be significantly lower, assuring that these will be rare coins in the future.

Artists
The obverse of this coin was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Associate Designer Barbara Fox and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill. The reverse was designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna.
